Description
This distinctly formed, contoured vessel sings in a deep, burnished Urushi lacquer. Its arresting broad silhouette is hand-built using traditional Japanese techniques local to the artist's environment. This sculptural vessel responds well to natural light, accentuating its rich patina of luminous umber hues.
About the Artist
Koichi Onozawa is a ceramicist currently based Nakagawa. Inspired by Momoyama and Korean ceramics, Onozawa creates collections of vessels, tableware, and sculptural forms. His works exhibit an experimental and considered approach, desiring to express the "integration of primitive beauty in modernity" and achieve a new and unique expression through traditional Japanese materials and methods.
