Description

This fluid, contoured vessel undulates in a deep, burnished Urushi lacquer. Its arresting form is hand-built using traditional Japanese techniques local to the artist's environment. This sculptural, shallow vessel responds well to natural light, accentuating its rich, grey tin powder finish reminiscent of metal.

About the Artist

Koichi Onozawa is a ceramicist currently based Nakagawa. Inspired by Momoyama and Korean ceramics, Onozawa creates collections of vessels, tableware, and sculptural forms. His works exhibit an experimental and considered approach, desiring to express the "integration of primitive beauty in modernity" and achieve a new and unique expression through traditional Japanese materials and methods.
