Exhibition: Yuta Segawa

YUTA SEGAWA

Yuta Segawa studied Industrial, Interior and Craft Design at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, before completing an internship at The Pottery Work Shop in Jingdezhen, China, and an MA at Camberwell College of Arts in London. Conscious of the challenges of porcelain and the risk of distortion to the forms, Yuta strives to make each piece as beautiful as possible, using the freedom that the easily altered material offers to create an endless variety of shapes.
Utilizing the whiteness of the material, Yuta has developed over a thousand glazes which encompass the entire colour spectrum. Positioning them in large groups, to magical effect, or as individual pieces that sit in the palm of the hand, his work plays with the imagination.
Specialising in producing miniature pots, which are hand- thrown and hand finished, Yuta aims to highlight the relationship between artists’ bodies and their work. “It is a challenge to test what the human body can make on such a small scale.”
Pieces in the Porcelain exhibition will be dispatched after the 7th of July
