Kaori Tatebayashi grew up in Japan, close to nature and the traditions of Japanese ceramics. Since studying in Kyoto, London and Denmark, her quiet, understated tableware and sculptural hand-built stoneware installations have been seen in exhibitions that include Ceramic Art London, Made London, Collect Contemporary Ceramics at the Saatchi Gallery and British Modern Pottery in Japan. She has described how ceramics touch on memory, that “once the clay has been fired, time is trapped in the piece”.
