Tom Kemp
Largely self-taught, ceramicist Tom Kemp says that after taking weekend courses at Turning Earth he never looked back. Working mainly in porcelain and with an underlying interest and passion for calligraphy and Roman sign writing, Tom creates exquisite minimal forms which are then brought to life what is usually just a single brush stroke.
Tom has experimented with many different tools for mark making, working to exclude any recognisable language and focus on movements, graphical and bodily relationship, universal aspects of writing that are unspecific to any group.
“The vessels are surfaces on which I then write marks. These strokes are made swiftly and contain a huge amount of information about the way my body works during these few seconds.”
With refined forms and distinctive markings, Toms work has fast become noted among both ceramicists and collectors worldwide.
