Handmade in Japan

This small-scale hand-carved wooden sculpture demonstrates Hideo Sawada's sensitive approach to evoking the human form. His loose carving technique refrains from imbuing his characters with specific and distinctive features, maintaining Japanese traditional aesthetics. Sawada’s figures are a matchless example of a modern application of subtlety and grace, balancing the abstract with the gentle suggestion of emotion and the human form.

Sawada uses local and natural materials and this sculpture is made from CamphortreeA light sculpture with variations in texture, it depicts an abstracted human form seated on a plinth. Its quiet simplicity evokes contemplation, and its timelessness means it will easily be treasured for many years to come.

Dimensions: H-19 cm x W-4.5 cm

As all products are handmade, sizes and colour may vary slightly.
