Akiko Hirai's teapot surrenders to the perfection of imperfection. Thrown on the potters wheel, sculpted and carved, creating unique facet surface. Fully functional, pours to perfection. And of course Akiko's signature tear drops on the side of the teapot.
Akiko Hirai uses the Japanese tradition of allowing the clay to reveal its own uniqueness in the firing.
Akiko explains that using dark and white clay varies the textured surfaces of each piece. 'Imagination and fantasy always reinforce the imperfection and achieve the perfection with its own originality. The completion of the work is done by the viewer' Akiko Hirai
