This board and knife set demonstrates how Alex Walshaw creates wonderful sustainable objects that bring nature into the home. The board was shaped from wood previously used for fencing, with the original mortice hole functioning as a handle. The knife was made from scorched storm fallen oak found by Walshaw. The board and knife have been treated with an oil and wax finish, making them fully functional tools for eating.

Alex Walshaw creates furniture and functional objects from fallen or felled branches, reclaimed wood, and wood grown thorough coppicing, an ancient and sustainable method of woodland management. He shapes the wood with simple and traditional hand tools which have long been used for carving, such as axes, knives and adze’s. He leaves traces of his woodworking practice on his works, enjoying the addition of his stories to those already present in the wood.
Walshaw’s practice is totally imbedded within nature. His natural surroundings are the source of his materials, his inspiration, and also act as his workplace, throughout every season.
