This white vessel is hand built by artist Enriqueta Cepeda, using pinching and coiling methods with some additional simple tools. The form sits flawlessly, featuring a wide body and a rounded, organic neck. This piece is luxuriously textured, by using methods such as scraping to reveal the chamotte in the clay or rubbing the exterior with a stone before the firing process. Enriqueta refrains from using a glaze, and instead embraces the natural characteristics of the clay. This allows for the continuously evolving, unique aesthetic of her work.
About the Artist:
Enriqueta Cepeda is a ceramicist living and working in Stockholm whose designs and making process take inspiration from ancient pottery. Enriqueta draws on the ceramic practices of different ancient cultures and interprets them in her own way, such as the Pueblo Indian technique of burnishing and polishing pots after firing. The Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi is also significant to Enriqueta’s creations, and informs the simplicity and asymmetry that they display.
