This beautifully hand-carved, wooden sculpture is made by Hideo Sawada. The delicate mark-making is exquisite and demonstrates his immaculate skill in carving wood. Sawada balances the abstract with the figurative, using his meticulous technique of sculpting with Camphorwood, a local and natural material. He is passionate about creating simple and subtle forms to uncover the emotion and power of each character, aimed to be explored further by the viewer.

The small, lightweight sculpture has a smooth texture, with warm light and dark brown tones, embracing the natural qualities of the wood. In a kneeling position, the figure is contemplative and free standing. The artist welcomes the viewer to observe it further.
