Ceramic artist and metalsmith Yasha Butler crafts modern vessels out of clay that commemorate the old and the forgotten. She builds through coiling and carefully selects tones that can be found in nature.
Yasha spent many years honing her ceramic practice; at Laney College, California, under Nuray Ada in Istanbul, Turkey at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine. Originally an interior designer, she recognised that clay added a sense of poetry and character to interior spaces and she began producing ceramics full-time in 2006. Yasha’s ceramics that are informed by notions of simplicity without neglecting beauty.
