Jaejun Lee is a Korean ceramic artist based in the UK whose practice is centred around porcelain and wheel-throwing. His work is characterised by restrained forms, refined surfaces, and a strong sensitivity to material, creating pieces that are intended to be quietly integrated into daily life.
A significant part of his process is dedicated to finishing and surface treatment, where subtle variations in texture, light, and touch become essential elements of the work. Through this careful approach, Jaejun explores how simplicity and precision can give ordinary objects a lasting presence.
Lee completed both his BFA and MFA at Seoul National University before exhibiting internationally across Korea and Europe. Since first showing at Collect at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2013, his work has been presented regularly in exhibitions including Ceramic Art London at Central Saint Martins, as well as in Seoul, Taipei, Munich, and London. He moved to the UK in 2018 on an Arts Council England Exceptional Talent visa.
His recent work focuses on celadon glaze and reduction firing, investigating the unpredictable depth and atmosphere created during the firing process. Alongside international exhibitions, his work has received recognition through awards including Best Ceramics at the Bovey Tracey Craft Festival and Best Selected Maker at the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, and as a finalist for the BKV Prize in Germany in 2022.
