Description
Jack’s latest collection of hand-thrown soda-fired stoneware includes mugs, cups, teacups, pourers and bowls. Made from locally sourced clay, the work ranges from vast open forms to intimate pieces designed to sit comfortably in the hand.
Both functional and sculptural, the pots have a bold, grounded presence. Deep blacks are combined with soft blues, greens and ochres, while the soda firing creates richly varied and interrupted surfaces marked by flame and atmosphere. Each piece is completely unique.
About the Artist
Jack Doherty is a ceramic artist based in Cornwall. Using one clay body, one colouring mineral and one single firing technique, Doherty’s singleness of process and practice of utmost refinement has granted him a way of making that allows him to speak of the stories that are important to him. Doherty’s fascination with prehistoric ceramics is revealed through the form of the vessels themselves, whose archetypal shapes have their roots in a universal history.
