Description

Celia Dowson’s small, frosted vessels are a tribute to the purity and simplicity of water itself. Made from clear Banas glass, this work is a study in simplicity and clarity, reflecting the artist’s deep connection to the essence of water.

These frosted vessels, with their diminutive size, evoke a sense of intimacy, drawing viewers into their serene elegance. Their smooth, glassy texture, interrupted only by stunning glass droplets, offers a tactile experience reminiscent of running fingers through calm waters. Balanced on a small yet firm stem, the wide circular opening, like a liquid pool, invites exploration and celebration of water's essential form.

The glasses acquire an ethereal quality when in light, akin to the way water transforms under moonlight. Their frosted, glassy appearance enhances the connection to water, inviting contemplation of the ever-changing state of this precious resource. The water glasses, though small in stature, are a grand testament to the artist's skill, offering an opportunity to immerse oneself in the pure, timeless elegance of water's form and spirit.

About the Artist

Celia Dowson is an artist whose ceramics and cast glass objects go far beyond their functional use. Celia graduated with a BA in Ceramic Design from Central Saint Martins in 2014, before receiving her MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art in 2018.

Celia works with the different properties of glass and porcelain to evoke the movement of nature in different ways. Her porcelain vessels represent evolving landscapes, mountainscapes and seascapes through marks and gestures. Her glass pieces vary in thickness, causing subtle gradations in colour. This reflects the colours, changing light and mystery of the natural world.
